Quarter Pounder

Boat names can be fun. My boats have been named Polka Dot, Starbeam, Clover and Lady Bug...all named by my daughter between the ages of 3 and 7. Her inspirations have been what she's wearing that day, My Little Ponies, and nature. I like the tradition of her naming my boats...at least until she's a teenager. I can just imagine a new boat being named "I hate you why can't I stay out past 10PM?" Just the cost of the vinyl lettering will kill that idea. If it gets to that I'll just exercise executive powers and name it "boarding school".

But the point of this thread is Quarter Pounder. I love that name. And I don't know why. I know nothing about this boat, is it the fabled Quarter Tonner class? Is the owner's name Ronald McDonald? Is it just a funny name? Any ideas?

No idea.

But I did hear that some California McDonald's are being redesigned using the principles of feng shui. And, for a limited time only at these locations, you can get your Quarter Pounder with extra Ch’i.

it kills me that that is a completely plausible scenario. even the extra ch'i.

Of course it's plausible. It's true.

Just found a thread on quarter tonners and this, alas, is not one.

Oh well, good theory.

Come on, just look at the picture of this wide, beamy thing. It either looks like a burger patty, or it looks like somebody who ate a few too many.

(And yes, I might have burgers on the mind because I did actually have a double Quarter Pounder for lunch.)

Or a following sea pounds on her quarter?

All good suggestions. What I really like about the boat (besides the name) is the backstay adjuster....a corroded old wheel that you crank down on.

I love the idea of a 3 y.o. naming your boat. Sometimes people put SO much thought into their boat names and usually come up with something that is very commonplace (they think they were the first people to come up with Second Wind or AquaHolic), or it is so obscure that nobody gets it.

You have a great blog by the way... I'm going to mention this post on the boat name blog.

I think "So Obscure" is a great name for a boat. Nobody would get it.

that guy doesn't spend much time with the varnish can open does he?

First, your boat names are all good. Second, dude, you've now owned FOUR boats?? Third, the name "Quarter Pounder" is not so good. I like names that are human names.

two are el toro dinghies for the day camille takes sailing lessons. maybe the guy's name is quarter pounder? i've seen stranger names come out of San francisco in the sixties.

Once again you have verified Tillerman's Triviality Theory which postulates that the number of comments to any blog post is inversely proportional to the relevance and significance of that post.

well, tillerman, that makes me feel better about the paucity of posts over my way.

Perhaps she carries a very small cannon.

Or the owner feeds lots of twenty-five-cent pieces into slot machines?

Or owns a burger franchise?

I owned Quarter Pounder.

She was named that in the early 1970's because she was in the quarter ton racing class.

Wonderful boat. Do you know she is now? Where did you last see her?
