Clover Splashes

It's a potentially boring video...but it's Clover's debut on the silver screen, worth 150 seconds of your time.

Other than the lack of battens, the obscene weight of this boat, and the lack of wind, this was a great day sailing. There's a 2 minute limit on DropShots, I'm going to find a site for the additional 30 seconds somewhere.

Can we assume that the choice in music---Beastie Boys---was your daughter's?

Great vid. Very nice. Where is that?

The kid's musical preference is either ska or the Nutcracker. Very interesting.

Scott's Flat Lake, about 3/4 of the way between San Francisco and Lake Tahoe.

Looks great Edward! I sailed an El Toro once, and I have to be honest, it scared the crap out of me. Only the second dinghy I had ever sailed at the time, but coming off of a laser, I felt much more comfortable on the latter.

On a different note, I head a story from an old salt out here about the origin of the name and logo for that particular vessel, and was curious is anyone else knows anything about it. I'll be happy to share in a few days, but, first, I'd like to see if it's even close to what some others of you might have heard...

Whew, the origin of the logo, I'm going to take a stab at it. The El Toro was designed in the San Francisco Bay Area as an answer to the Sabot. They needed to put a uniquely San Francisco touch to it since the boats are so similar, so they created a logo that for all intents and purposes is a phallus. Is that what you heard?

You're a nerd Edward.

Nerd. Nerd. Nerd.

I'm just mad I didn't think of it first. Especially like the theme music. Try sitting in the boat with your butt on the sole and your legs sticking out one side, your shoulders the other. It works for me when I commandeer my son's optimist.

OK, this is the story that I got...

They had the design before they had a name. The first hull was nearing completetion, and they were arguing over what the name of the boat should be. One guy piped up and said "Well, with all the bullshit I've heard around here the last few days, we ought to call it "El Toro!" The logo on the sail is a shovel, for, you guessed it... the pooey.

I cannot verify the accuracy of this, but that's one story floating around here on the East Coast. ;)
