Around the World by 18

I like following crackpot sailing adventures. I also enjoy more traditional voyages. I guess I just like sailing.

There's a kid about to attempt to be the youngest solo around-the-worlder. He seems pretty solid, he has a good boat, and he's apparently sailed his whole life. I'm not sure I buy that you should be doing it just for the reason to be youngest, if only because the logical extreme of this idea will in the end have somebody completely unprepared to make the voyage attempt it. But I don't think young Zac is that logical extreme yet.

He's leaving in about two weeks so I'll be sure to keep a weather eye out for him.

Very interesting! My GoogleReader (and/or Zac's blog) isn't cooperating with my attempts to subscribe to his feed. Are you able to subscribe, EVK4?

I'm not so sure about his claim to being the youngest to circumnavigate, though. Robin Lee Graham was 15 years old when he set sail.

Christy, I think he was 20 or 21 when he completed the circumnavigation. This guy states (and I don't know if it's true) that nobody has ever completed the circumnavigation by the age of 18.

I think the completion age is probably the most important, otherwise I'd set Noah adrift tomorrow to start his record attempt.
