Who is that Great Sailor?

80% of the crew attended the Safety at Sea seminar this past weekend. It was mildly informative, had some interesting demonstrations and, most importantly, had about 200 pretty good sailors in attendance. Including one great sailor.

I got a picture of him at the beginning of the seminar.

Here I am taking a picture of one of the greatest sailors in the Bay Area and, surprise surprise, who else is staring at him? Paul Cayard.

When VOR finished here (NYC) I got a snap with Paul himself. I'll put it up on the redwing's blog one of these days. It was pretty damn cool.

He's doing the Pac Cup with his kids; I really didn't want to bug him while he was enjoying family time at a boring seminar that he was qualified to teach. Actually, I did want to bug him I just didn't have the guts to.

Garrett (gentleman in picture hogging the flash keeping Paul Cayard from being visible) talked to him in the lobby while both were avoiding the hypothermia discussion.

Well, I typed a whole response here about the day I met PC, and getting his picture, and I kept having this nagging feeling that I had told this story already. And in fact I have.

But when I looked on my boat blog I found nothing about the VOR. So I checked on my other blog, the one reserved for book reviews, and there it was...it seems I met the VOR racers the same week I bought the Redwing. Serendipity?

Enjoy the story here.

And doing the Pac cup with the kids is cool.

But what is WAY, WAY cooler is that you, sir, can say you have raced against Paul Cayard. That's dope!

Edward,

I hate to break it to you, but the man pictured in your post is not, in fact, Paul Cayard.

Lonnie my friend....it's all about the forest, you have to look past the trees. See the guy back there with the fantastic mustache? I highlighted him in the background. That is not only Paul Cayard, it is The Paul Cayard.

Dude, that's a TV screen with Cayard on it!!
