Easy Off Oven Cleaner

I finally realized that I may never have the 6-8 hours it's going to take to get that old name "Sophica II" off the transom of "Lady Bug" using acetone. It will work (based on 10 minutes of laborious testing) but there are many many better ways to use that time. Like, for example, sailing.

So, I contacted the local boatyard to see if they have someone who could do it at a reasonable rate. Now, here's why I like these guys, he says he has someone but it'd be easier just to use Easy Off Oven Cleaner. You heard that right, Easy Off Oven Cleaner. Here's a picture for your viewing pleasure:

If it doesn't work in the expected time, I'll still bring the boat over to them to do, but I just love the idea of using household cleaners on boats. Soft Scrub with bleach is another good one. Keep that in mind.

Who would have thought...
makes me uneasy about what it is doing to the water, however it all goes there anyway doesn't.

I would think the best bet would be to take great care to keep it out of the water. Wipe it off instead of hosing it off, for example.

If you're using the baking-soda-based version of Easy Off, you don't even need to worry about toxic residue -- it's non-toxic. I don't use anything else on my oven or my barbecue grill.
