I want to sail to Hawaii. I'm trying to figure out how to get a ride in the Pacific Cup next summer, exploring a few avenues to get a crew spot. It's been bugging me for a while and then my Dad sent me this:
It's the track that Zorra took back in 92. I was only on the first three stops. To this day, this voyage is my second best sailing experience (right behind the thrill I get every time Camille wants to sail with me). It might have made the top if I had been on the bottom half of that circle, the westward part. You know, the one where it gets warmer every day and you're sailing downwind on your way to the Caribbean.
Going to Hawaii will be like that, downwind toward a tropical island. It will be different in a race; I would assume there's more emphasis on sail trim. But I'm used to moving between leisurely daysail-pace and race-pace. It's different and more fun in many ways.
I'm going to get that ride. And maybe in a few years get an offshore capable boat and do it on my own boat. And make my own map.

And we'll all eagerly await the blog posts that result!
Also - oh my gosh, you sailed to Bermuda? You are my hero. Bermuda is my absolutely favorite place on Earth. My sailing dream is to zoom around The Great Sound in a little daysailer someday.
Cheers and TGIF,
Christy
Oh man, let me know if you find a ride for two! Wow! And I thought I wanted to do Newport to Bermuda. Nah, that looks better.
Any time you can end up in Bermuda it's worth it. I love that place.
Then again, Hawaii isn't so bad either.
Seems like it should not be that hard to get a crew spot. I hear just asking around the SFYC will most likely get you a hookup...but I could be wrong.
BTW, where were you on Sun? I looked and looked and looked no team polka dot
Somehow the serious bluewater stuff has always been a little intimidating to me. Serious stuff.
But I have been known to go looking for transpac crew-wanted stuff online. Think I found a forum for that one time & instantly got very depressed about the fact that I really don't know doodly squat compared to the people who were actively looking for positions.
Five zillion two-hour sails to the Statue of Liberty do not a Transpac crew candidate make. Even in cruising class.
